How Mytime Active supports the wider community.
Our commitment to wellbeing and our communities goes well beyond our centres - read on to see how our teams are supporting the wider community, in particular older frail adults and those living with dementia in Bromley.
DEMENTIA FRIENDLY GOLF
In PGA Monthly Feb 23 issue the following article appears – very timely with the Mytime Active focus group to start golf for dementia.
The focus group will be starting in a few weeks time, for more information visit
Next week the team will attend a dementia community breakfast meeting – Home Instead are present along with other representatives from the Dementia community. The golf session has been posted on the Bromley Dementia friendly Community Group as well as the Primetime page – Bromley Well have picked it up and I have a number of other contacts still to contact so no shortage of cover. I am also visiting a group in Chislehurst to see if another community class in that area is viable and another group in Petts Wood next week. Age UK have been in contact and we will be speaking to the social prescribers at all the GP surgeries as well attending an event on March 15th to support the loneliness and isolation strategy at LBB.
PRIMETIME DEMENTIA FRIENDLY SESSIONS
Due to high demand more dementia friendly sessions are being added to our Primetime programme. A number of instructors have attended the dementia awareness training with MIND so that we can highlight their classes as dementia friendly. The class on a Thursday at Crofton Halls now has at least 35 attendees plus carers and volunteers and still more are coming hence a new session being added on a Friday afternoon.
Thursday's group (see photo) which started only a few months ago with 5 or 6 people, has also been highlighted to support the LBB loneliness and isolation strategy – the regular coffee morning after it is a big draw for the class!
We now have highlighted Dementia Friendly sessions in West Wickham, Beckenham Spa, The Pavilion and Crofton Halls as well as Darrick Wood and soon to be Bromley Golf Centre. These classes are open to those living with dementia, their carers and older adults who are needing more balance and strength work helping to prevent falls, the golf open to those who are unable to go out on the open course.
SOCIAL
In April we will be holding a Reminiscence Workshop which has been offered to us - one group a year is chosen to receive this free of charge and we have been offered it this year.
In May we will be hosting an event for Dementia Action Week with a Coronation themed indoor Street Party, we have managed to get sponsorship from a local business and the Rotary so that we can open it to all dementia groups in the borough .The date is Thursday May 18th at Crofton Halls from 2-4pm.
We have also got a regular young onset dementia group visiting us for bowling monthly now as well with at least 18 attendees each time. All activities and social events are of course supported by our wonderful Primetime buddies.
