Changing Places Awareness Day July 19th 2024

We're proud supporters of Need2Change and their Changing Places project - as they describe themselves "A bunch of friendly mums dedicated to raising awareness, and changing things for the better, for children and adults with complex disabilities and their families." In fact, two Changing Places can be found in our swimming pools at Biggin Hill and The Pavilion

Friday 19th July 2024 is Changing Places Awareness Day, and Changing Places have provided us with the following information for us to share!

To celebrate Changing Places Awareness Day on 19th July we would like to highlight the lovely new Changing Places in Bromley. We now have 8 registered facilities across our borough.

Changing Places include a ceiling hoist and a height adjustable changing bench. The toilets all have grab rails and space on either side to help with transfers from wheelchairs. Three of the locations have a Wash and Dry toilet so that more people can go to the loo without needing support from others. All Changing Places include a colostomy shelf and a privacy screen, which promotes dignity for the user or anyone supporting them. They also have paper towel dispensers to help with sensory processing differences. Some venues have a shower attachment, widget symbols (Toilet and Washbasin) and have a height adjustable basin.

These facilities are for anyone who cannot use a standard accessible (disabled) toilet and are beneficial for people with an array of continence needs as well as physical and learning disabilities. We’re delighted that within Bromley, you can use these facilities even if you are not specifically visiting the venue for an activity.

There are more details in our summary below. The best place for opening times and contacts for all Changing Places in the UK is the Changing Places website: www.changing-places.org/find. If you type Bromley into the ‘Find toilets near’ search box you will see all of the local facilities. Note that the toilets at Crystal Palace Park and High Elms Country Park are open but may say ‘closed’ – this is because the opening times are seasonal. Although, saying this, sometimes the facilities do have to close temporarily for maintenance. It is always worth checking that they are open before you visit. We love to see people having fun out and about and we sometimes advertise events and activities at locations with Changing Places. If you would like to find out more then do follow us on our social media accounts (Need2Change) or email us at hello@need2change.org
