Cross country success for Bromley

The 2017 London Youth Games began last weekend with over 70 young people representing Team Bromley in  the cross country race at Parliament Hill, West London.

Team members aged between 10 to 17 years were chosen at the tryouts in September. Many athletes are members of Blackheath and Bromley Harriers Athletics Club, along with young people that have recently been introduced to the sport.

Both the girls' and boys' teams performed to an exceptionally high standard. The boys' team won gold, beating last year's bronze, while the girls won silver, narrowly pipped to the post by rivals Wandsworth.

The positive start puts Bromley back at the top of the Jubilee Score Board and in a strong position for the rest of the season.

Team Manager Jay Galley said:

“The boys have done so well to win, I’m delighted as it’s normally the girls that finish at the top of the table. There has been loads of interest in joining both teams this year,  the trials were really well attended and incredibly competitive. Thankfully we have lots of young athletes that have plenty of years left in the squad.”

The 2017 Games continue in January with girls and boys cricket qualifiers. Both teams hope to reach the finals and compete at the prestigious Lords cricket ground.
