How to fit wellbeing into your day
The NHS recommends 150 minutes of cardiovascular exercise – the kind that raises your heart rate and makes you breathe more quickly – every week, or about 21 minutes every day. It may not sound like much, but sometimes it’s hard to find those extra minutes when you’re juggling work, family and other commitments. Here are some tips to help you make the most of the time you have:
-
Get the app
When you download the Mytime Active app you can book your favourite classes quickly and easily. That way you can plan your week in advance, you know there’ll be a space for you, and you’ll feel more motivated to make the effort and attend.
-
Be an early bird
A 20-minute run, alone or with a partner, friend or colleague, or a gym session, fitness class or bike ride first thing in the morning will wake you up and leave you feeling great all day.
-
Work out in your lunch break
Don’t sit at your desk. The lunch hour gives you enough time for a gym session, swim or group exercise class.
-
Socialise while you exercise
Invite your partner or friends along for a round of golf, a run, gym session or exercise class. You’re more likely to stick to your plans if there’s someone else involved, and you can turn your workout into a social event. Why not unwind afterwards with a drink or snack in our café?
-
Work out faster
We offer several high intensity, short format classes, including High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and TARGET30, a half-hour session incorporating different equipment and exercises for a challenging and rewarding workout.
-
Take the children along
Have fun getting active with your children by taking them to the pool, or sneak in a quick workout at the gym while they’re having their swimming lesson.
-
Screentime
We spend an average of 3 hours a day watching TV or looking at computer screens. Stand up and stretch, do some exercises like situps, wall sits or plank, or exercise in your chair while you watch.
